The word “beautiful” seldom came to mind when describing the Aims Recreation Center in Greeley. That is, until a recent renovation project transformed the tired, 1970s gym facility into a state-of-the-art, glass-walled facility worthy of the surrounding mountain vistas. The remodeled Aims Physical Education and Recreation Center began as a water mitigation study, but grew into a full remodel. The renovation maintained the existing bones of the basketball section of the building – reconfiguring about 18,000 square feet of interior space – while adding another 28,000 square feet of new construction. Fitness, flexibility, and state of the art technology remained the prime focus through the design process. The future-proofed design allows the interior space to be reconfigured as fitness trends and exercise technology evolve – all while still maintaining the community college’s vision of a well-lit, safe, welcoming facility.
