The Polaris Pavilion is a universally-accessible picnic shelter at Wells Overlook Park. The concept parti sought to resolve two sets of axes, a north-south axis oriented to the natural world and a rotated axis oriented to already existing human-built features of the park. At a conjunction of these two ordering grids, the Polaris Pavilion rests in a clearing in the woods. The pavilion is organized in two volumes constructed of screw-laminated mass timber for the roof, structural timber screens and steel columns, and timber and concrete benches and tables.
