Arbor-Kitchen uses digital tools to design with living trees. Precise documentation, growth prediction and parametric design come together to solve the challenges of complex growth. Using a high-detail point cloud, a space truss is designed to fit the branches of a grove of 32 trees. The prefabricated roof sits on the branches, which are guided to grow through the truss and intergrow with the steel structure. Translucent shingles provide rain and wind shelter to people gathering below, who meet, cook and eat together as the canopy grows above them.
