The Martin Luther King Library underwent renovation and modernization under the supervision of the architectural firm Mecanoo located in the Netherlands and Francine Houben the founding partner and creative director. A contingent architectural firm, OTJ Architects, in the Washington DC area was also part of the project. Smoot Construction was the primary construction firm and they were my client. The building was completely gutted and rebuilt from the basement up rebuilding within an historical context and incorporating new design that opened up the interior spaces.
