At the"Empty Sky" 9/11 memorial by Frederic Schwartz, New Jersey's victims' names are etched on the metallic interior of the long, narrow walls. The outside world is largely out-of-sight, therefore creating a space for it to be out-of-mind, giving many pause and quiet reflection. Others stay in the present and playfully pass through to the park outside to enjoy life itself... the very thing that was ripped away from victims. This photo was taken during the height of COVID - another devastating blow to life. This moment captures how contemplative and solemn humans can be, or how dismissive.
