Solar Steps explores how thresholds define relationships between domestic and public programs and interior and exterior. How can we create and occupy gradient spaces between these polar zones for flexible co-living? In addition to being a passive climate strategy, the layering of various transparencies of threshold materials and adjustable partitions gives residents the power to dynamically reshape their spaces and change their visual, auditory, and circulatory connection to their family, their neighbors, and the community beyond, resulting in a new way of co-living that affords spatial agency
