The Royal Hotel in Picton reimagines the landmark Victorian hotel for the 21st century. Over a decade, Giannone Petricone Architects have transformed the dilapidated 19th Century Victorian mercantile building, restoring the heritage façade, and establishing 28 guestrooms, a restaurant, street front café, gym, and spa. Playing on the expectations of the hotel’s history, the design introduces rich contrasts between past and present, rustic, and refined, sordid and sublime, treating guests to an experience that is transporting yet deeply rooted in the local context.
