113 w136 St - A Prototype for Modular Affordable Housing on Small NYC Lots

Firm LocationNew York City, United States
CompanySoluri Architecture
Lead ArchitectAndre Soluri

This prototype shows how small urban infill sites can help solve NYC's housing crisis by using design-based solutions to add-value, reduce cost & make compact units desirable places to live. Only 16’-7” wide, this 7,300sf building uses modular construction to reduce cost & time of construction while increasing quality & safety. With 2 studio units per floor, the project becomes financially viable, providing a green roof, community room & fully accessible elevator. The facade proposes a respectfully restrained contemporary design that responds to the neighboring row of historical brownstones.
