The density of megacity urbanity - where air pollution and environmental degradation are pre-conditions for design - presents a challenge for creating secure educational environments. Conceptualized as a cocoon, the Healthy Planet pre-school is a safe haven for young children as they engage with early years learning. Classrooms are arranged as set of organic ‘cells’ around a central courtyard - the focal space - draped in a tent and illuminated softly from skylights. The galleries are lined with a lattice rail in birch veneer plywood - a soft counterpoint to the red brick walls.
