The site has two old courtyard houses facing a lake. The scenic area was famous as a great example of traditional Chinese literati aesthetics. Chinese landscape long-scroll paintings are not meant to be seen at one glance, but to be read progressively as the viewers unfold the scroll. What about reading the actual landscape in such a poetic and introspective way? The two old houses are connected by a curved, elevated bridge-corridor, which barely touched the old structures, allowing guests to experience shifting views of the landscape while walking along it.
