The external appearance of the Bern tram depot is characterised by the lightness of the glass and aluminium shell. With its simple form, it succeeds in incorporating both the internal demands in terms of economy and organisation, as well as the external constraints of the tight, oblique-angled perimeter, and translating them into a concise form.The expansion of the tram depot was already conceptualised in several stages in the 2007 competition. With the expansion of the city's tram network and new longer trams, the need for depot capacity increased.
