For Canvas House, our aim was to transcend traditional architectural forms through an innovative masonry design that reflected the personality of the owner. Inspired by the movement in one of Larry Poons’ dot paintings, a piece within the client’s art collection, we designed the façade as a dynamic painting that uses brick as its medium. The optics are achieved by a novel bond pattern. Inside, wall space is maximized and materially muted to highlight the works inside. The walls and ceilings feature smooth, curving transitions and custom-milled details enhance the interior’s dimensionality.
