1 Hotel Haitang Bay lies in a prime location fringing the picturesque shoreline of Hainan Island, a tropical haven in southern China. The project is a considered and careful redesign and rebranding of an existing Balinese resort design and structure with attributes to suit a more sustainable tourism model. Bringing together both global awareness of sustainable development and a deep understanding of the local site, the design draws inspiration from the raw beauty of the island, featuring local and reclaimed materials where possible, while optimising efficient use of natural energy sources.
