The Coursive is a venue that showcases the urban, architectural, and social history of the city of Fougères in Brittany. This cultural facility does more than simply present the territory in which it is located: it embodies it. The project’s environment is marked by a certain ambivalence. On one side stands the highly heritage-listed dimension of the largest medieval fortress in Western Europe. On the other, a more disparate urban fabric, shaped by different construction periods. This duality reveals what defines ancient cities: their layered urban sedimentation.
