The BAAKA Cultural Centre rekindles the spirit of Wilcannia, rising from the remains of the beloved Knox & Downs store. Born of a slow and deeply respectful co-design process with community, it reflects the layers of story, culture and identity tied to the Baaka. Through this collaboration the heart of the design became a sacred keeping space to respectfully store and share culture, housed in materials, stories and forms drawn from Country itself. The outcome celebrates Wilcannia’s diverse and multi-layered history while providing a central place for the evolution of ancient living culture.
