Cabane Tortin sits at an extremely dramatic location at some 3.000 meters altitude in the Swiss Alps. The footprint of the building reuses that of an earlier building in the same location, while the new building is shaped to underline the drama of the landscape for those who enter inside. This is truly off-grid. There is no infrastructure and water can only be collected in a two month window from an offspring higher up in the mountainside, then stored in-house for the rest of the year. The building is heated by a pellet heater, electricity from solar panels integrated in the cladding.
