York Minster stands as the culmination of nearly four centuries of building, from Norman (c.1080) to its Gothic transformation beginning (c.1220). My series traces this layered history. In this photograph, ‘Phoenix,’ a 180° Vertorama of the Quire, the stalls’ intricate masonry sweeps in a full circle, like the wings of a bird in flight. Candlelight softens textures while pre-dawn light bathes the scene, creating an ethereal atmosphere. Supporting images explore other parts of the Minster, including the column-free vault of the Chapter House and the Great West Window in golden-hour light.
