From the street, this house appears to be an ordinary tract home like its neighbors. Upon entry, the illusion is revealed, and one experiences a collection of volumes that transform one’s perception of the generic 1980’s house into a light-filled, modern home. The addition is a two-story volume inserted between the existing house and garage, increasing the usability of the backyard by separating from the driveway and connecting to the indoors. Daylighting is integral and openings respond to solar orientation, trees, and functional flow, in turn yielding the formal geometry.
