St. Mary’s Cathedral in Sekiguchi, Tokyo, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tokyo. Designed by Kenzo Tange, it was completed in 1964, replacing the original wooden church destroyed in World War II. The cathedral’s modernist design features soaring concrete walls covered in stainless steel panels, forming a cross-shaped structure when viewed from above. Natural light enters through a vertical slit along the ceiling, creating a solemn and spiritual ambiance.
