The Idle Strip: The Future of Idling in Daily Infrastructure

Project locationNew Orleans, Louisiana

Contemporary infrastructures prioritize continuous movement to regulate transportation and minimize pause, yet moments of idling and interruption inevitably surface. Often treated as flaws, these pauses represent latent opportunities for architectural invention. The Idle Strip questions whether infrastructure can be an architecture of idling. Beneath an ordinary lift bridge in New Orleans, the project reinterprets waiting as a catalyst for spatial and programmatic evolution, using forms shaped by tension, interruption, and asynchronous development to let architecture adapt rather than resist.
