Birulia, a neglected yet historically rich settlement near Dhaka, reflects Bangladesh’s fading heritage. Once a vibrant river port under the Bhawal Zamindars, it now holds only 10–12 of its original 64 colonial-era structures. Amidst rapid urbanization and land scarcity, this project addresses a key question: How can heritage sites be conserved while honoring their originality and serving contemporary needs? Through community engagement and adaptive reuse, the aim is to protect Birulia’s legacy while fostering sustainable urban development.
