Rif 2050 : Harnessing Indigenous Agricultural Heritage for Rural Resilience

Project locationRif Mountains, Morocco
University/SchoolUniversity of Montreal
Lead ArchitectMyriam El Yassini

Located in the mountainous north of Morocco, the Rif is an Indigenous Amazigh region marked by historical marginalization and land fragmentation. This 2050 landscape vision links the rural communes of Midar, Driouech, and Ben Taieb through integrated agro-tourism, ecological corridors, and innovative soil and water management strategies adapted to the landscape. It proposes a resilient framework where cultural heritage and sustainability shape a multifunctional rural future, celebrating living landscapes where ancestral practices meet contemporary strategies.
