A Garden for the Stars: Nurturing Sensory Inclusion for Children with Autism in Hong Kong

A Garden for the Stars transforms underused land near Hong Kong Children’s Hospital into a sensory-inclusive landscape for autistic children. Inspired by celestial imagery, paths, gardens, and play areas form a “nebula” of interaction, comfort, and retreat. The design addresses limited facilities, poor connectivity, and overstimulating spaces by creating layered environments—quiet sensory gardens, playful zones, shaded groves, and tactile elements.
