The Brutalist style swept through Sydney from late 1950s to the 1980s, with buildings characterized by exposed concrete or brick structures, leaving a rough imprint on the city’s urban landscape. Today, half a century later, in an era dominated by sleek glass facades on the city’s skyline, these deliberate, rugged surfaces seem to rebel against the current era’s refinement. Their weight and presence appear even more pronounced in today’s context. I visited many Brutalist buildings across Sydney, seeking to capture their dialogue with our era. Pictures are part of my project 'Sydney Brutalism'.
