When Beijing Railway Station was under construction in the 1950s，to verify the feasibility and reliability of the innovative concrete thin-shell large-span structure design at that time, three 1:1 scale solid arch shell models were constructed by CABR. These were later preserved and repurposed to become the institute's auditorium. To preserve the historic building and sustain the auditorium’s symbolic significance as a cultural icon, restoration and renovation works were initiated in 2022.
