Skylights bring natural light into the underground space, and the interplay of light and space enriches the underground experience. This changes people’s first impression of underground spaces as “dark and confined.” The necessary spatial sequence addresses the transition from a small circulation space to a large open area. A gradually shifting lobby sequence is introduced, where the scale of elements like the ceiling, floor, and overall proportions progressively increases. This creates a continuous and gently expanding spatial flow, reducing the sense of abruptness.
