Sited on the High Street of a diffuse residential neighborhood, Esslinger Arcades is a multi-functional building with 140 apartments, two retail halls and a social center. This complex program is forged into eye-catching architecture – both imposing and inviting – that fosters an incipient urban center for its anonymous suburban setting. The U-shaped building wraps itself around a green court. Structured balconies of sanded concrete face out to the city, creating a rhythmic layer of inhabitable space that opens itself at ground level to Esslinger High Street and forms a lively, modern arcade.
