Studio CAPN
Situated in Þjórsárdalur, Stöng reinterprets one of Iceland’s most significant archaeological sites through the adaptive reuse of its 1957 protective shelter. The project safeguards eleventh-century Viking Age ruins while improving public access, interpretation, and connection to the surrounding landscape. Untreated larch, galvanized steel, and translucent polycarbonate form a light architectural framework that mediates between ruin, shelter, climate, and terrain, transforming preservation into an active spatial and cultural experience.
