The project is elevated above the terrain, freeing up ground-level space for outdoor living. The design addresses three challenges: 1) keeping the ground clear for family activities; 2) offering passive tsunami protection by allowing seawater to flow underneath without causing damage—a crucial factor for a coastal site in a seismic zone; and 3) ensuring the security of a seasonal property. A perforated steel double skin wraps the building; this reduces solar heat gain, filters light, and blocks the wind, while also providing privacy.
