Timbertop House. Photo by Félix Michaud
This family retreat in rural Ontario by Akb Architects reinterprets the region’s agrarian building typologies—gabled barns and modest farmhouses—through a contemporary lens. Its slightly off-axis roofline slopes toward an expansive woodland while full-height glazing frames the view. During a record-breaking snowstorm, Montreal photographer Félix Michaud captured the hilltop house as a source of comforting warmth, its form softening until it nearly dissolves into the drifting snow.
