Together with the boiler house, pump house, cooling plant, and auxiliary services building, the data center for ETH Zurich is part of an ensemble of infrastructural buildings at the Hönggerberg campus. Similar to the campus’s existing development structure, this ensemble is conceived as an island and, in terms of design, is closely intertwined with the immediate surroundings, which have a park-like character. As the frontmost building, the computing center redefines the face of the ensemble. Situated at the interface between the campus and a residential zone, it presents a monumental volume.
