On January 14, 2023, a Russian missile destroyed a 9-story section of a building in Dnipro, Ukraine, claiming 46 lives. A simple reconstruction of the site would erase the memory of this horrific crime against humanity. Therefore, the “Space of Absence” concept focuses on the contrast between the preserved building’s materiality and the glaring void in all its aspects—spatial, social, emotional. The metal framework recreates the lost silhouette without walls or floors, forming a phantom structure. Inside, 46 suspended glass light spheres symbolize the victims' immortal souls.
