Groundwork proposes an alternative model for affordable housing that treats land remediation as an architectural driver rather than a preliminary obstacle. Sited on the former Robinson Dairy, a lightly contaminated industrial brownfield along Denver’s South Platte River, the project reframes soil, waste, and construction as an integrated system. Contaminated soil is remediated and reused as fired brick cladding, while phytoremediation landscapes provide low-water open space for residents. These site-derived materials are paired with prefabricated CLT housing modules.
