Shopping Shells: Unfinished Infrastructure

The mall is not an obsolete building. It is unfinished urban infrastructure. Shopping Shells reimagines the declining suburban mall as a framework for new urban life. At Wellington Green, the project retains the existing structure, slabs, circulation, and embodied material, while selectively opening the shell to daylight, air, landscape, and public life. New infrastructure cores, adaptable housing, civic programs, and productive landscapes transform consumption into a flexible framework for living, community, and future change, allowing the mall to evolve incrementally rather than be replaced.
