The Coastal Aggregation and Routing Center (CARC) transforms an isolated waste facility in Helgoland’s South Harbor into a publicly accessible piece of infrastructure. Marine and island waste is collected, sorted, processed, and routed through the building, while an elevated public route allows visitors to observe these normally hidden operations. CARC is the first architectural intervention of the Helgoland Marine Recovery System, a broader proposal connecting waste processing, material recovery, marine research, education, and public space.
