This bridge connects Ponte S. Angelo square to the Vatican Lungotevere in Rome. The original was built at the behest of Emperor Augustus in 134 B.C.. The original arches were destroyed in 1893 and replaced by modern arches. In 1535 the statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul are placed at the entrance to the bridge. In 1669 the parapet was replaced and designed by Bernini, above are placed ten statues depicting Angels carrying the instruments of the Passion, sculpted by Bernini's students under his direction.
