Tea Collective’s cultural space in Daejeon repurposes a jeoksan house, a term meaning “property of the enemy,” referring to houses built for Japanese officials during Korea’s colonial rule from 1910 to 1945. These wooden residences were confiscated by the Korean government after liberation. The preserved structure in Soje-dong features exposed rafters and tatami floors, with large glass walls opening to a garden inspired by the lost Soje Lake. It harmoniously blends historical architecture with modern tea culture, emphasizing slow aesthetics and natural materials.
