I was born in Moscow, USSR, and trained as an architect, with a Master's degree from Moscow Architectural Institute (formerly VKHUTEMAS), the cradle of Russian architectural avant-garde ideas in the 1920s. These ideas, as well as photography of the Bauhaus movement, influenced my approach to architectural photography. The photos in Light+Shadows Portfolio capture the mystery of perspective and geometry created by light and darkness in the architectural image. They were inspired by the words of Louis Kahn, who said: "The sun never knew how great it was until it hit the side of a building”.
