Little Island in NYC is a lovely fusion of nature-inspired architecture and community gathering spaces. Located at Pier 54 which was badly damaged from Hurricane Sandy, it was designed by Heatherwick Studio. 132 75-ton "pots" form the foundation of the park, with their roots deep in the Hudson River bed. These intimate details highlight the interplay of "buds" at the top of the tulip-like structures.
