Rok Žgalin Kobe

Rok Žgalin Kobe completed a PhD at The Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana, titled Between Site and Architecture: Examining the Relation in the Period from 2000 to 2010. Its aim is to recognize the relationship between the site and contemporary architecture, to identify important transformations and significant changes in architectural expression from the turn of the millennium, and to identify to what extent and how the architectural site influences the transformations of architectural expression. He developed a methodology for analysing architecture in terms of the site with in-depth case studies, in which sources, information, and graphic material were collected directly at the location.

Rok has been working on architectural projects since he started in university of in 2000. After graduating, he founded an architectural practice called RA-AR, which has designed and executed numerous projects, ranging from office, retail and residential construction to award-winning trade-fair stand design and interiors, as well as participated in large urban plans.

Rok was a practicing architect until 2015, when he accepted a fulltime design position with one of his corporate clients and moved to Denmark, building upon architectural consulting work which led to establishment of architecture themed global products. Since then, he works on the selection criteria, concept work and final design of the premium, adult and design-oriented toys. Designer of over 50 products, his works have been reported by many well-known architectural and design media, from Domus, Dezeen, ArchDaily, Wallpaper to New York Times, CNN Style and others.

As an invited guest lecturer/speaker, Rok Žgalin Kobe shares his expertise in both site-specific architecture and design, as well as the intersection between landscape, living environment and play.
